Our School

Located in East Hamilton on the Stoney Creek Mountain, Tapleytown Public School has been a proud part of the community since 1881, when it first opened as a one‑room stone schoolhouse. As neighbourhoods grew, additions in the 1950s and 1960s allowed Tapleytown to continue serving local families—many of whom have attended our school across generations. This strong sense of continuity and connection remains a defining feature of our school community today.

Tapleytown is a well‑established school that values both tradition and progress. Our students consistently demonstrate strong academic achievement, with results that meet and often exceed Board and provincial expectations. Guided by the values of the Hamilton‑Wentworth District School Board, our staff are committed to high‑quality instruction, inclusive and responsive practices, and support for the whole child.

Our School Improvement focus centres on strengthening literacy and mathematics learning through effective classroom instruction and targeted small‑group support, fostering student well‑being and belonging, and advancing equity so that every learner feels seen, valued, and supported. Working in partnership with families and the broader community, Tapleytown Public School provides a safe, caring, and engaging learning environment where students are encouraged to grow academically, socially, and personally.
